Trevor Hardy. Known as many things or more simply as 'The Beast of Manchester'. His lasting effects upon communities has plagued many families due to their fear as well as loss. Manchester was terrorised by him and it caused a huge manhunt for him which was unsuccessful for an extended period leaving women and children fearful of walking alone after it got dark. This can be seen to be one for the first televised and news reporting upon a Manchester serial killer/killing with many members of the public helping police officials to incarcerate Hardy. To the Mossoph and other victims families, there was pure hatred and dread knowing that he was still alive for decades after the murders. His wave of crime and thereof lack of forensic evidence was something Manchester had never seen before and brought the Greater Manchester Police into a new era of police work as well as identification, surveillance and prosecution. After letting Hardy slip from their grasps once, they didn't sit around for that to happen, they adapted and bettered themselves to protect the community.
In a post 20th century society, it can be seen that the lasting effects of Hardy aren't as evident. With very few knowing about his killing spree since Hardy was incarcerated and sentenced to consecutive life sentences very little had been spoken of Hardy. While at the time he revolutionised police methods of investigation and caused region-wide terror, there can be seen to be very little about him in modern with there being very little online and even in the Manchester libraries there is little to no information about him. While during his trial he attempted to gain infamy through his belief in his alleged superior intellect, he actually gained much less than that through the hatred of him from communities being overlooked by the fear of the Yorkshire ripper whose killing spree was around the same time and blew up nationally and with intervention from the British government generated a greater fear than Hardy ever managed to do. Furthermore while on an analytical level it can be seen that he was troubled, news outlets did not hold back on him due to his lack of remorse and the local disliking of him grew. In finality, Hardy had no visits in the last 15 years of his life in max-security prison in Wakefield. He was forgotten and due to rising problems by killers such as Dale Cregan and other such heinous acts, Hardy's story has been archived and almost entirely forgotten by those who weren't involved in the case.
To those involved, he has and always will remain a monster. His crimes rocked Manchester and caused great fear and panic and what he did can never be undone. His name lives on in hatred from the victim's families as well as those involved in Hardy's prosecution and while not being widely known, during his spree on the loose, he struck fear in the hearts of many and caused great devastation and anguish through his acts. Thank you for reading my blog on my analysis and telling of the Trevor Hardy case and his impact upon Manchester.
I would like to express my deepest condolences to the Mossoph family, Skala family and Stewart family.
